Fortescue & Oldfield loaned two important goache works by Bridget Riley to The Lightbox in Surrey for "Bridget Riley: Pleasures of Light", a survey exhibition in celebration of Riley's 90th birthday, "Discs: Turquoise dominating Olive and Magenta, 1970" and "1st Study for Painting, 1989" (pictured).
The exhibition explores the artist's love of sight and how it surprises us, and allows the viewer to delve into the historical roots of Bridget Riley’s art and her working methods, through a selection of exemplary striped, curved, colour and black-and-white works.
Examples will be drawn from each decade – from the 1960s to the present day – with oils, prints and preparatory colour studies forming a medium scale retrospective that will explore the artist’s enduring exploration of colour, structure and perception.
The exhibition invites the viewer to explore Riley's overarching campaign, undertaken over 60 years, to continually reveal fresh and new ways of seeing.
